Symetrix Composer is an award-winning DSP and system-control software platform widely used in professional AV installations. By integrating NETIO PDUs as controllable devices within Composer, AV system designers can manage power distribution, remote outlet switching, and real-time energy monitoring — all without leaving the Composer workflow.
NETIO is strengthening its position in the AV segment by providing ready-made drivers and Intelligent Modules for leading control platforms. The Symetrix Intelligent Module for NETIO PDUs allows integrators to seamlessly add smart power management to any Composer-based system.
Support functionallity:
- Read out NETIO device details (model, IP address/ port, device name)
- Monitor individual outlet status (ON / OFF)
- Switch any outlet ON, OFF
- Read energy consumption data on NETIO devices that support power metering (A, W, kWh, V, Hz, TPF)
- Aggregate global electrical measurements across all outlets
- Reset the energy counter
How it works
The Symetrix Intelligent Module communicates with the NETIO PDU over the local network using the NETIO JSON API (HTTP). The module issues an HTTP GET request every 2 seconds to refresh outlet states and measurement data. Control commands (ON, OFF, Reset) are sent as HTTP POST requests and the module processes the JSON response immediately.
Configuration - Configure the NETIO device
Enable the JSON API on the NETIO PDU so that Composer can communicate with it:
- Open the NETIO web interface in a browser (default credentials: admin / admin).
- Navigate to M2M API Protocols.
- Select JSON API and check Enable JSON API.
- Set the access mode to Read-Write. If both Read-Only and Read-Write are enabled, make sure you use the Read-Write credentials in the Intelligent Module.
- Note the IP address, port (default 80), username, and password — you will need these in Composer.
- Click Save Changes.
Import the NETIO Intelligent Module into Composer
- Open Symetrix Composer (version 8.0 or later).
- Go to the Symetrix Control Library at symetrix.co/control-library and search for NETIO.
- Download the NETIO PDU Intelligent Module (.symmod file).
- In Composer, open your Site file. From the menu choose File > Import Intelligent Module and select the downloaded .symmod file.
- The NETIO module will appear in the Intelligent Modules panel and can be dragged into your design.
Configure the Intelligent Module in Composer
- Double-click the NETIO Intelligent Module in the design to open its control view.
- Enter the Connection Setup details:
- IP Address — IP address of the NETIO PDU on the local network
- Port — HTTP port of the JSON API (default: 80)
- Username and Password — must match the Read-Write credentials configured in Step 3.1
- Click Emulate (or go online) to activate the connection.
- The Connection Status indicator will update as follows:

Control & Measurement
Outlet control
Once the connection is established, the Intelligent Module displays all available outlets. For each outlet you can:
- Switch ON — applies 230 V / 110 V to the connected device
- Switch OFF — removes power from the outlet
- Reset — briefly switches the outlet off and back on (useful for rebooting network equipment)
- View the outlet name as configured on the NETIO device
All outlet states are refreshed every 2 seconds via a periodic HTTP GET request.
Energy measurements (metering models only)
On NETIO devices that support per-outlet power metering, the Intelligent Module displays the following electrical parameters in real time:
- Current (A) — RMS current drawn by the connected load
- Load (W) — active power consumption
- Voltage (V) — mains voltage
- Power Factor (TPF) — total power factor
- Frequency (Hz) — mains frequency
- Energy (kWh) — cumulative energy consumption since last reset
Global aggregated measurements (sum across all outlets) are also available. The energy counter can be reset remotely from the module control view.

FAQs
1. Does the module support multiple NETIO Devices? Yes. Import the inteligent module once per device, each its IP address.
2. Does the driver support HTTPs? No. The current inteligent module uses HTTP (JSON API) only. HTTPs is not currently supported.
3. Is communication event-driven or time based? Both, the module sends a GET request every 2s and also reacts immediately to control commands
4. Which Composer version is required? Composer 8.0+
5. Is the intelligent Module Free? Yes. Download it for free from the Symetrix Control Library
