Industrial product quality

NETIO sockets are made with quality in mind. Each unit includes a set of supporting functions to ensure reliability and long service life of the product in real-life conditions.

  • Open M2M API
  • Wide operating temperature range (–20°C to +65°C)
  • PowerUp state – defined output state after power-up
  • PowerUp delay (outputs switched on after a delay)
  • Firmware upgradeable over the web, backwards compatibility
  • IOC – Independent Output Control
  • ZVS – Zero Voltage Switching

ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching)

An important feature of the NETIO PowerBOX is ZVS (Zero Voltage Switching).

ZVS controls the exact time when the mechanical relay contacts close and open. The relay contacts switch the output on or off when the voltage crosses the zero level.

  • In the long term, ZVS support reduces the product failure rate due to internal relay damage.
  • Since the relay switches when the sinusoidal voltage waveform crosses the zero level, negative effects of inrush current are significantly reduced.
  • The ZVS and PowerUp delay functions reduce the chance of circuit breakers tripping when power is restored after an outage.
  • ZVS extends the lifetime of connected equipment, especially in case of frequent on/off switching of devices that are not designed for that (such as switching power supplies).

>> Glossary: More about ZVS

Power-Up state

User can define output state after power restoring - PowerUp state

For some applications, it is important to set the power socket state immediately after the device is powered on (or the power is restored after a failure). With some machines it is important to avoid momentary switch-on or switch-off. This parameter therefore defines the behavior of the 110/230V output power socket before the standard communication with a master system starts to work.

  • On
  • Off
  • LAST state restores the last state before the power was disconnected

>> Glossary: PowerUp state

Mobile app

Mobile app controlled power sockets

PowerBox 3Px can be controlled over the local network using the NETIO Mobile 2 app (for Android mobile devices).

  • The mobile app can be used to control several devices and all their outputs.
  • The mobile device must be connected to the same LAN (via WiFi).
  • NETIO Mobile2 can scan the LAN and discover connected devices. WiFi connection to the LAN is required.

NETIO Mobile 2 is not available for iOS users. We recommend using third-party apps:

 >> NETIO Mobile 2

Scheduler (timed switching of individual outlets)

The switching of outlets can be time-controlled by the Scheduler with a graphical interface. Switching on/off at specific times can be easily configured.

  • Each output can have its own schedule, according which the output is switched
  • While Scheduler (calendar) is running, the output can be controlled from NETIO Cloud, web interface or Open API
  • The Scheduler does not require an internet connection (requires a time source – NTP server – for example a local ADSL / WiFi router)

FAQ

Expand all

Is it possible to specify in which state the output (power socket) will be after power-up?

Yes. When the PowerBOX is powered up, all outputs are set according to the PowerUp Init configuration (On / Off / LAST value). The parameter can be set in the web interface in the detailed configuration for each output.

I forgot the password, how can I reset the product to factory defaults?

To reset the product to factory defaults, press and hold the button next to the RJ45 jack. Keep the button pressed and plug in the product. Still keep the button pressed. About 12 seconds after powering up, the yellow LED flashes 3 times and factory default settings are restored (Load to defaults).

For the current procedure, see the supplied QIG (Quick Installation Guide) for the product. It is available for download at this page as well as included in the product package.

The NETIO Mobile app cannot find the NETIO PowerBOX 3Px.

For Android mobile devices, please upgrade to NETIO Mobile 2. For iOS mobile devices, NETIO mobile app upgrade is not available yet.

Can PowerBOX restart a device remotely?

Yes, the “Short OFF” command (accessible for instance in the PowerBOX 3Px web interface) can switch the power to the device off for e.g. 5 seconds and then switch it on again automatically.

Typical applications include the remote restart function, where the user needs to send, over the Web or via the URL API, a command that momentarily switches the output off and then switches it back on. This is typically used to restart a LTE / WLAN modem; the PowerBOX controls the power to the modem.

Can PowerBOX switch on an output at a specified time?

The Scheduler (calendar) function is being developed. It will be available at the end of 2020.

If Scheduler function is not available in your device, update your firmware to highest possible version.

Is it possible to control PowerBOX 3Px using an IoT cloud?

Yes. PowerBOX 3Px includes an open API. We are continuously publishing ANxx (Application Notes) that describe how to connect the product to various third-party systems.

What is the difference between MQTT and MQTT-flex?

MQTT-flex is a NETIO extension of the standard MQTT protocol. The extension uses a configuration text file to specify the MQTT message structure, the MQTT broker address where messages are sent, and the periodicity. In this way, a complete configuration of the MQTT communication can be transferred in a single text file.
